2. Timezone Verification

  • • Local time is determined using coordinate-based IANA timezone lookup.
  • • Daylight Saving Time (DST) is applied automatically where applicable.
  • • This prevents errors from simplistic longitude-based or country-only approximations.

3. Fallback & Redundancy

  • • If the primary data source (sunrise-sunset API) is unavailable, built-in fallback calculations ensure continuous service.
  • • All fallback calculations use the same validated astronomical algorithms to maintain accuracy.

Sanity Checks & Validation

  • • Fajr is always confirmed to occur before sunrise.
  • • Iftar is verified to occur at sunset.
  • • Multiple calculation methods are checked for consistency across global latitudes.
  • • Extreme latitude locations (e.g., Alaska, Hawaii, Northern Europe) are validated to avoid physically impossible times.

Edge Cases & Regional Variations

  • • Different Islamic schools interpret dawn slightly differently; all recognized methods are supported.
  • • Optional user-defined buffer minutes are available to align with local mosque practices.
  • • The system automatically accounts for latitude, longitude, elevation, and timezone differences.

Continuous Updates

Astronomical calculations, timezone data, and regional offsets are periodically reviewed and updated. This ensures ongoing accuracy for new years, daylight saving changes, or political timezone adjustments.
